Customer Reviews
Not perfect, but very useful
This book is probably ideal for people teaching ESL in English-speaking countries. It's probably not designed for EFL students, but I've used it with two groups of competent EFL students now, and will continue to make use of it.
For my purposes, the advantages are: topics are more varied than many writing texts, and there is a selection of activities available for each type of language/language point that you want to practice. There are pre-writing activities and a goal which my students are usually happy to adopt.
Disadvantages: for EFL students who have particularly limited experience in writing, the "key words" selection is too limited. The "writing organisation" section of the Tool Kit section could also be usefully expanded.
I use this book together with a compact grammar review book such as "Test It, Fix It", and find this combination works well - students can work on disheartening basic errors, while enjoying a flexible choice of writing topics at a more advanced level - some from this book, and others designed for their academic specializations.
The Cambridge Copy Collection allows me to customize courses without creating too much work for myself.
