Product Description

A thoroughly updated edition of this well-established guide to drugs and prescribing for intensive care. The book is split into two sections: an A-Z guide to the drugs available, and concise notes on the key topics and situations faced on a daily basis. The A-Z section provides succinct information on each drug including uses, limitations, administration directions and adverse effects. The second section details complications that may arise in patients with particular conditions such as diabetes, epilepsy and renal failure, and other factors that may affect drug prescribing. There is also a section of key data, showing weight conversions, body mass index and corresponding dosage calculations. This edition includes a colour fold-out chart showing drug compatibility for intravenous administration. Presented in a concise, compact format, this book is an invaluable resource for doctors, nurses and other medical professionals caring for critically ill patients.

Editorial Reviews

Review
'The A-Z section provides concise information on each drug including indications, administration directions and adverse effects. I particularly like the 'how not to use' a drug which reminds me of some of the important things to avoid when a certain drug is used. the second section has concise descriptions … there is a lot of useful information in this book that is not readily available in some bigger textbooks … [the book] is value for money and will be invaluable to all ICU medical and nursing staff working in the intensive care unit.' Customer Reviews

Ideal for the newly qualified!5
As a recently qualified staff nurse, I wanted a drug book that wasn't as complicated as the BNF or paediatric formulary. This is the one. Very simple and easy. All drugs are listed in A-Z, rather than what type of drug they are. This makes it easier quick use or for newly qualified staff like me.

Pocket sized (unlike a lot of nursing books)makes it easier to carry round and it fits nicely into the pocket of my scrubs.

At the back it has small sections on: routes of administration, compatibilty of drugs, inotropes, resus drugs, and also what drugs to use in various situations, such as status epilepticus.

It also has quite an extensive section on how drug doses should be altered in patients with renal insufficiency.

I would say that this book is a must, not only for HDU/ITU staff but also for staff nurses on the ward.

Buy it!5
This is a fantastic little book; it has all the A-Z stuff on drugs you'd expect with clear advice about all of them and is very user-friendly. It also has lots of handy stuff at the back eg. which inotropes affect which receptors and resulting systems and drug compatibility tables (when sharing lines) plus a lot of the stuff you'd been told and either forgotten or written down and lost.

Easy to read and use, handy pocket size, packed with info and its a bargain too. I love it!

Essential.5
A must have for all critical care professionals. All the information needed in easy to access format. Lives in my locker and the most well used of all my critical care books. Everyone asks to use this!
