Product Description

Critical introductions to a range of literary topics and genres. The gothic influence on modern writers such as Angela Carter, Iain Banks and Stephen King is vivid and great as is the effect on the world of film and rock music. Part of the function of this book is to offer some guidance: not in terms of a fixed or definitive set of Gothic characteristics, but rather in giving a framework for questions and explorations.

A Good Starting Point4
The Gothic Tradition provides a very good starting point for anyone studying this area of Literature. It provides synopses of the historical revival of the Gothic tradition and the early manifestations of 'Gothic' in literature, art and architecture. There are some excellent exercises which will help the student develop a better understanding of Gothic literature, including extracts from various 'Gothic' novels which could be compared etc. The book also provides an extensive suggested reading list for further investigation which is very useful.
An excellent beginning indeed.

Sublime5
This book has been tailored to the OCR GCE English Literature course, specifically Unit 2718, which gives Gothic texts such as 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' and various poems for analysis and requires a thorough understanding of The Gothic. This text gives a solid introduction to the aspects of Gothic language, context, structure and style that the exam addresses, and has a raft of extracts and ideas for study. Essential for OCR students and pretty useful for anyone approaching The Gothic from GCSE to Degree level. This website offers the text at a competitive price too.
