These best-selling texts differ from "Calculus, Fifth Edition" in that the exponential and logarithmic functions are covered earlier. In the Fifth Edition of "Calculus, Early Transcendentals", these functions are introduced in the first chapter and their limits and derivatives are found in Chapters 2 and 3 at the same time as polynomials and other elementary functions.

a very comprehensive overview
The book is very thick and weighty. It contains everything you need for 1st year calculus course. It goes into a lot of depth, and all the theorems have proofs. There are lots of examples, and lots of questions - and answers to every other question. There is a lot of material in this book, and it is layed out nicely - with nice use of color (especially when depicting 3d surfaces). Not good however if you want a quick/easy reference. But then that's not what it's designed to be.

Best University Level Maths Book
This was my favourite mathematics textbook, during my undergraduate degree in Mathematics. It applies to nearly all the modules I had studied. Though useful in first year, I have to say it was more so in the second and third year of maths at university.

Evenly spaced, good use of colour, clear diagrams, and fantastic examples.

First Year Bible.
This book covers everything you could ever need in a first year calculus course, and will continue to be useful in later years too. Its nicely presented, and isnt just an exercise book but goes through all ideas in a good level of detail. Not a book to carry with you to lectures, this should stay at home and be your reference. Great buy.
