Customer Reviews
This an excellent text for beginners or experienced students
Over twenty years ago I used to favour an American meteorology textbook when teaching British college students at the elementary stage. I especially preferred the less formal style of that American book to the rather starchy, severe British texts of the time. Now retired, I can't remember the name of that book and so I searched for a similar edition and Essentials of Meteorology by Mr Ahrens is what I bought from Amazon.
These days I am in to the third age study scene! However, this book is splendid with clear explanations of concepts within its text. It covers modern forecasting methods and its illustrations are beautifully presented as are the diagrams illustrating physical processes in the atmosphere.
The only reservation that I have is that the instances of events are, not surprisingly about American locations and cities. That is not a criticism but more of a regret that so far I have failed to locate a book equally to my taste but written for the British market and using illustrations of British weather - of which there is not shortage!
I recommend this book.
Essentials of Meteorology reveiw by Patrick Hayes
I am only an 'ameteur' meteorologist and I found this book a very helpful for understanding my favourite hobby a lot more clearly. Shame its American bias. Good links to weather sites on the web too. Highly recommended for the less technical minded enthusiasts
