This ADVANTAGE SERIES edition of Swokowski's text is a truly valuable selection. Groundbreaking in every way when first published, this book is a simple, straightforward, direct calculus text. Its popularity is directly due to its broad use of applications, the easy-to-understand writing style, and the wealth of examples and exercises, which reinforce conceptualization of the subject matter. The author wrote this text with three objectives in mind. The first was to make the book more student-oriented by expanding discussions and providing more examples and figures to help clarify concepts. To further aid students, guidelines for solving problems were added in many sections of the text. The second objective was to stress the usefulness of calculus by means of modern applications of derivatives and integrals. The third objective, to make the text as accurate and error-free as possible, was accomplished by a careful examination of the exposition, combined with a thorough checking of each example and exercise. And,as part of the ADVANTAGE SERIES, this new version will offer all the quality content you've come to expect from Swokowski sold to your students at a significantly lower price.

A superb book to learn from and then keep for reference
I first bought this book as a first year undergraduate. The Calculaus course I undertook followed the pattern of this book, so I could study the book sequentially and complete all the excercises as an aid to learning. I did so an achieved a good mark in the class.
This is a good book for anyone who is prepared to put the work in, it does not give easy answers or solutions but if you take the time to read and study it, you will have a thurugh understanding of calculus.
The book still sits on my shelf, so I can reach it from my desk, as I find its basic axioms, formula and prrof, still provide me with most of the infoprmation I need.
I wouild recommend this text to all undertaking a course in calculus, at all levels.
A very good calculus book
Finally I've found a book about calculus that contains a proof to almost every theorem they give. Only problem is that exercises are sometimes even too easy to solve. If you want to get even a little challenge you'll have to do group projects (alone of course) which you can find at the end of every section. Despite this I strongly recommend this book.
