Product Description

Every day, Cat, Squirrel and Duck make pumpkin soup - the best you've ever tasted. But one day, disaster strikes - there's not a single ripe pumpkin to be found! So, they make fish soup, mushroom soup and beetroot soup, but will the new soups be as delicious as their favourite? Duck doesn't think so - in fact he won't even try them! Poor Duck gets hungrier and hungrier and grumpier and grumpier, until at last Cat comes up with a soup that might just be ...delicious!

From the Inside Flap
It's lunchtime in the old white cabin, but Cat, Duck and Squirrel haven't got a ripe pumpkin for the Pumpkin Soup. What will they do?
Look for something in a book, of course!
Fish Soup?
Mushroom Soup?
Beetroot Soup?
They all sound delicious to Cat and Squirrel, but the Duck is having none of it.
Can they find another favourite dish to enjoy?
This book will be a comfort to any grown-up who has experienced a child's faddy eating habits, and to any child who is feeling a little bit fussy!

From the Back Cover
Inside this book you will find a recipe for trouble!
INGREDIENTS:
No ripe pumpkins for the Pumpkin Soup!
One hungry Cat
One impatient Squirrel
One very difficult Duck
Mix them together with a pipkin of salt and a pinch of pepper to get a scrumptious story about what happens when the Duck decides to be fussy about food.
Hilarious and useful, Delicious! is the third book starring the three friends from the bestselling Pumpkin Soup and A Pipkin of Pepper. It's the perfect book for anyone - big or small - who has ever fought about food! From Helen Cooper, twice winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal.

'Delicious - A Pumpkin Soup Story' 5
'Inside this book you will find a recipe for trouble
and it is there on the inside cover!
A rather special recipe for the three friends, 'Cat, Squirrel and Duck , who usually make pumpkin soup together every day...........until, one day, there is a problem...'

I was captivated by the book corner at a recent primary class I visited, recently. Delicious! and Pumpkin Soup were the source books and 'the corner' was alive with the shades of Autumn, with pictures and poems about the three characters.
I was particularly impressed with the amazing attention to detail, drawn from these marvellous books which proved an excellent platform for a project.
The children couldn't hide their delight in acting out their little pieces.
From this book, 'Delicious', I particularly noticed the flow of lively adjectives, which the children really emphasised with apparent ease - e.g. 'nutritious' 'scrumptious', not forgetting 'delicious'..... and these words followed through into the written work too - with some interesting attempts at their spelling!

The 32 high quality page book is a beautifully illustrated, well written tale with a distinct message - sharing and compromise - and don't we all know how difficult that can be at certain ages?
It also aims to tackle that other precarious subject - 'the try something new' one, where, as the readers find out, appearances can be deceptive!

Simply delightful book, with an extra surprise, as 'the insects' get their own space, and witty comments, too!
Guaranteed to be a regular choice from the bookshelf!

Look out for A Pipkin of Pepper, too!

If this book was soup it would be Scrumptious, Nutritious and Delicious. 5
This is a lovely story that might just encourage a child to try a new thing, though children are exceptionally stubborn like Duck. The illustrations in this book are appealing, vivid, warm and autumnal in tone, and all with a special quirky touch. Cat, Squirrel and Duck are out of pumpkin for their perennial favourite, Pumpkin Soup, so they have to try something different. Cat and Squirrel are happy enough to give fish soup, mushroom soup and beetroot soup a try but Duck is NOT. Finally, with hunger at his heels and with the use of some correct colour changing ingredients, stubborn Duck does try a newsoup and it is Delicious. This book is a lovely stand-alone picture book for any child from age 2-3 up. It is also a grand finale in the Pumpkin Soup trilogy, each of which is nicely different, and I confess we have been waiting for this book since we got a copy of a Pipkin of Pepper this time last year and discovered there was one more to come. In this book the little insects, who have kind of guest appearances in the earlier books, develop their own amusing sub-plot and we love the cross-section picture of the little white cabin and the `extra' final page dedicated to the bugs. Fantastic.

I love this book5
This is one of my favourite books to read with my son. The pictures are beautiful, and the story has a good (yet not patronising) moral of trying something new to eat. It also has a couple of good 'shout out loud' bits that children remember such as 'i'm not eating that it's pink'.
