Customer Reviews
Excellent self-teaching material
I've been using the book and cassette for just 30 minutes a day for the past fortnight and I have learnt so much, it's unbelievable. My pronunciation in Spanish is better than my French and I've had classroom teaching in French for 2 years. You can work at your own pace. The only thing is that I find the book a little confusing giving various interpretations for Spain, South Spain and Latin America. I can't always remember them all. Otherwise, excellent stuff!
Excellent beginner's Spanish text book
This BBC book is an excellent beginner's Spanish book. It offers the usual language topics e.g. greetings, family, food etc in a very simple to absorb manner. However, it also offers a cultural slant on Spain and all of the Latin America countires explaining the origins of words, customs etc along with colourful ilustrations which help you remember things easier. There are blocks of topic related phrases in every section and exercises to test understanding (with answers in the back of the book). It introduces grammar in a gradual manner. You can also buy the acompanying tapes to develop your listening skills and ensure your pronunciation is spot on! I would recommend this book to anyone looking to teach themselves this very easy to pick up language.
A good basic understanding!!!
I've also got the Linguaphone All Talk Spanish, and as another reviewer said, it's ok if you like being patronised! Suenos on the other hand starts from the basics. It teaches you like you're taught at school with greetings, name exchanges, where you live, and gradually progresses through more complicated scenarios, but all in all is fairly good. Unfortunately, learning from these courses doesn't help with pronunciation problems!
