Product Description

Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen star as the fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane in this classic audio adventure, remastered for CD and now featuring an exclusive 45 minute bonus interview. The TARDIS s arrival, on a lonely stretch of beach at night, is closely followed by a slithering sound and a chilling roar marking the beginning of a terrifying adventure on present day Earth for the Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith. The deadly Pescatons have arrived! Refugees from their own dying planet, these towering amphibian monsters are led by the mighty Zor whom the Doctor has encountered before. Soon the creatures have invaded London, wreaking death and destruction upon the city and all who stand in their way. In their efforts to help save the planet s population from this violent onslaught, the Doctor and Sarah must draw upon all their reserves of courage and ingenuity. In an exclusive and highly entertaining bonus interview, recorded especially for this release, Elisabeth Sladen talks about her memories of Doctor Who and the Pescatons, her portrayal of the ever-popular Sarah Jane Smith, and what it was like to be part of the Doctor Who team in the 1970s.

Great Dr Who Stuff!5
For me, Tom Baker was the best Dr Who and my mum actually bought me the original audiotape of this story in 1976. Over time I lost this cassette but I have just received this re-release and it is still has good as I remember. If you like Dr Who then you won't be disappointed, a top quality production for a top quality story.

Doctor Who and the Pescatons - By the pricking of my thumbs, something fishy this way comes...3
Back in the mid seventies, the TV version of Dr. Who was at its height, with Tom Baker in the lead and Elisabeth Sladen as his assistant, Sarah Jane. Someone then had the bright idea of trying to record an audio only adventure for release on vinyl LP (remember those?) in an early attempt at a multi platform release. This interesting little entry was the result.

The story is narrated by Tom Baker, with the odd line by Elisabeth Sladen and Bill Mitchell as the main villain. It sounds a bit like an audio book rather than an audio drama, but the small intimate atmosphere works quite well. The story is quite interesting, with some good ideas. The only trouble is that, due to the time limitations of an old vinyl LP, the run time is limited to about 45 minutes, meaning that everything feels a bit rushed, and nothing is really developed properly. Also, the main advantage of audio is that the sets and monsters should be a whole lot easier to realise on a limited budget, but the sound effects here are pretty poor, even by the standards of the day.

There is a bonus second disk containing an interesting interview with Elisabeth Sladen regarding her time on the show. The liner reproduces the original sleeve art, and contains a brief essay on the genesis of the recording. The recording has been nicely transferred and has a nice clear sound, in glorious stereo.

All in all, an interesting idea and worth a listen, but limited in scope. Three stars.

Kris's Pescaton Review4
This is a fascinating piece of Doctor who material. One of the only audio plays with Tom Baker in it, and it has an interview with Liz Sladen as long as the program itself. And the pescatons are one of the best monsters I've ever seen. The storyline isn't the most original but it still works well and for the rareness factor alone this one is a real Gem.
