In 1086 the Domesday Book was compiled - a survey of England made at the behest of the Norman Conqueror. This text presents the manuscript, attempts to analyse the world it portrays, examines Norman society, and penetrates beyond it into the Anglo Saxon, Roman and even Iron Age cultures.

Michael Wood - Domesday: A Search for the Roots of England
Michael Wood continues to write (and present) the most accessible histories. His consistently high quality books and programs make history accessible and very enjoyable.
Domesday: A Search for the Roots of England provides the reader with not only the history, whys and wherefores of the Domesday Book but an insight into England’s ancient history; from Neolithic to Roman to the current era.
I thoroughly recommend this book. Highly articulate but never too academic it’s another great product of this likable writer/presenter.
