Carl Gottlieb's account of the making of Steven Spielberg's classic shocker is a compelling insider's story of the making of a film phenomenon. Jaws grossed $100 million, won three Oscars and launched its 26-year-old director. Screenwriter Carl Gottlieb was onboard throughout the production process, and chronicled his year-long adventure: a riveting portrait of a famously arduous shoot, complicated by clashing creative temperaments, pressures from the studio, bad weather - and sharks.

'My favourite piece of "making-of" material. It's like a little movie director bible.' Brian Singer (director of The Usual Suspects and X-Men)

Old favourite bites back!
At long, long last, Carl Gottlieb's superb and near-legendary 'The Jaws Log' has been reprinted, as a 25th anniversary edition. Fans of 'Jaws' the world over can now rejoice, as those with original copies were running out of places to put the sticky tape to keep them going!
The book is now in a larger format than before, which fits well with Nigel Andrews' rather more academic work on the film, and makes for a better presentation of the pictures. It is the pictures though that slightly dissapoint-not the new selection from Universal's archive themselves, for they are excellent, but rather the fact that they are included in this book at the expense of nearly all of the pictures that appeared throughout the original edition.
The major bonus here is the new 'Endnotes' section, where Gottlieb brings you bang up to date with the various characters who made the film, still with the wonderful self-defacing, industry-wise sense of humour that prevails through the original text of the book too.
If you are a fan of this film then there is no question that you MUST own this book, and if you are not, own it anyway-this is from an era where people actually WROTE 'making of' books, with words and everything! Absolutely superb.
Excellent insight into movie making
The trials and tribulations of the making of the legendary Jaws movie. Carl Gottlieb (Meadows in the movie) was participated in the screenplay for Jaws and therefore has a unique insight into how the bestselling novel was transformed into a monster of a movie. There is everything from a ground breaking shark that rarely worked to actors getting sprayed by skunks! Includes a photo section and a afterword that brings things up to date. A excellent read - well worth buying.
