Its so sad!
I enjoyed reading this book very much and i would definately recommend it. It taught me not to read a book by its cover and it gets really sad at the end!
Too Short.
This book dealt with a very interesting theme: how we can shun people because they are different, or unappealing, and the effect this can have on them. It has a tragic ending. But I felt that such a subject needed a longer book to really explore it in depth. Especially the reactions of Megan, after the death of Perdita, the "Freak".
Or maybe it didn't need to be longer but done in a different way. There's a book which I really love called Up a Road Slowly,by Irene Hunt, in which a similar thing happens. There is a girl at school whose mother doesn't look after her properly; she is dirty and smelly and malnourished. Nobody wants to sit next to her or play with her. She also dies in the book, but I got a much stronger sense of the tragedy.
However, I did quite enjoy this book and think it is worth reading.
