Synopsis
Includes EPNS & Old Sheffield plate makers' marks from 1784. The prices paid for Victorian silver plate are now sometimes greater than similar wares in sterling silver. The market for Victorian Sheffield Plate, as it is called, has grown enormously. Yet through the years there has been scant information with which to identify and authenticate pieces. This book contains 650 marks attributed to makers and manufacturers. It is an essential guide for dealers and amateur collectors alike. There is a highly motivated market of dealers and collectors. Although their market has burgeoned strongly in the past couple of years, their dealings have been pretty much in the dark. There has been too little reference material to draw upon and use. This revised work represents modern, ongoing research into the identification of the marks used on electroplated wares and their attributions. This book will now attribute more pieces to their respective makers and it is expected that dealers and collectors alike will benefit from the uplift in prices that identification brings.
Customer Reviews
Excellent guide for the enthusiast/dealer
An excellent and very thorough quick reference guide for anybody wishing to learn more about their silver plated items, logically ordered, very easy to use. Unlike other books it also covers Birmingham manufacturers as well as Sheffield. I deal in silver plate and it will be referenced daily. Not as deep in content as it could be per maker but the comprehensiveness of makers makes up for it.
EPNS makers
As a dealer it has become an invaluable assistant. It can be frustrating however as there seem to be just as many marks not covered and so I also need two or three other references as well.
