A magnificent monologue of obsession
This monologue, running at about an hour, is a brilliant portrayal of monomania. Gus Gascoigne, trainspotter extraordinaire, reveals to us some of the secrets of his craft, and tries vainly to convince the audience that there is no finer actvity than to spot. Find out, among other things, about the event he considers to be as exciting as losing one's virginity, and get more than a clue why he hasn't lost his yet.
See a performance of the play if you can; if not, the script is the next best thing.
The actual train details (numbers etc) are highly unconvincing, but as I used to be a trainspotter I would say that, wouldn't I. Oh dear, fell right into Dinsdale's trap there.
Enjoy.
And yes, Gus does wear an anorak - but no ordinary anorak, more the hereditary robe of a high priest.
