I'm giving it 5*s cos she's my old teacher :)
Well the author of this book, Claire Strickland taught me AS law last year. She's a fantastic teacher, so you can't really knock the book. However it's difficult to use in conjunction with AS law, because there are a lot of things in it that either don't go into enough detail, or aren't covered by the syllabus. It is good to read though to consolidate what you've already learned, and for reference purposes such as looking up cases. It's not ideal if you're stuggling law and looking for a textbook to teach you what you don't know.
Her A-level law book Criminal Law is better, for use in A2 - so I'd recommend that. Don't knock her though ... she's very cool :)
Good all round explanation of Law
I used this book in conjunction with my AS level Law course, mainly when looking at criminal law. 'The English Legal System' takes a broad look at the legal system comprising plenty of learning activities which fit into a good structure.
This can't really be used as a reference book because it does not go into that much detail, but for somebody who is undertaking law at A/AS level or even a GCSE (or equivalent) course this would be helpful.
On the downside the book could include a lot more real-life examples which would make this more interesting. And it's frequent inclusion of Diagrams and Pictures (some patronising) give the book a child like feel. Overall it's a reasonable attempt to teach law to students.
