Tort Law

This popular and well-established student textbook on tort law, now in its third edition, covers the subject comprehensively but concisely. It offers a clear and detailed explanation of the law of tort, presented in a systematic and logical order for learning and revision, with clear page design and headings. The style and language is exceptionally accessible to students, and references to contemporary cases and topical issues in the media engage students' interest and help place the law in its modern context. As well as up-to-date coverage of new case law and statutory provisions, the book includes discussion of academic opinion and theory, and critical commentary on the law in this area. Detailed guidelines on answering typical examination questions are provided in each chapter, as well as a chapter of general advice on revision and examinations. The book concludes with a glossary of terms.

New coverage in the third edition includes:

  • The latest developments on duty of care, particularly those owed by public bodies and local authorities, in cases including Barrett v Enfield London Borough Council (1999), Phelps v Hillingdon (1998), Kent v Griffiths (1999) and Reeves v Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis (1999)
  • The effect of the incorporation of the European Convention on Human Rights on decisions in this area, following the case of Osman v UK (1998)
  • Key cases on foreseeability (Jolley v Sutton London Borough Council (2000); causation (Holtby v Brigham & Cowan (2000); and damages (Heil v Rankin (2000)
  • A completely new chapter on product liability, with a critical assessment of statute and case law in this area

Brilliant book, very informative for both A level and degree5
I have a teacher who cant teach excepetionally well and one of the girls in my class suggested this book to help me with my A levels. Well i did the exam in January and recently got my results back. from learning from this book i came out of the exam feeling confident and when my results came through i was ecstatic. I got 110 out of 120, thats an A. I was so pleased that this book helped me when my teacher couldnt. Thank you for this book.

A excellent accompaniment to A-level Law syllabuses5
As a lecturer teaching Law to students for a variety of academic qualifications, I am constantly seeking universally approachable books that will provide a fundamental guide to a particular legal area for students.

Without doubt Elliott and Quinn's Tort Law achieves this for the Law of Torts.

Encompassed within this work are clearly headed and worded up-to-date chapters on Negligence, Employers' and Occupiers' liability, Defamation, Nuisance and Trespass amongst others.

Every chapter has examples of examination questions that add to the learning experience of the student.

Furthermore, all the main cases are in bold type to make referencing easier!

Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant5
I am currently in the first year of a Law Degree and have been using the Tort Book to help me get by in tutorials and essays and I must say a big thankyou to Elliot & Quinn for writing the book s without it I dont think I would have passed my first year exams which I passed at Grade A. The book has an easy to understand interface which has the auroa of wanting to be read and is not to daunting like other law text books and it starts from the beginning so you have a thorough understandin of the topic unlike other textbooks which tend to scare you by diving in the deep end. This book is the perfect compliment to A level and Degree level Law.Buy it and trust me you will wonder how you ever got by without it.
