Do you know how to store your knitwear? Write the perfect thank-you note? Choose the ideal flowers to mark an engagement? "House Rules" is the book to help you run your life in a practical, orderly and supremely stylish way. Informative and fun, this is a reference book for people who might not have anyone else to ask how to stop moths destroying precious cashmere sweaters, how to treat a calamitous stain quickly, or how to deal with a culinary disaster in the middle of a dinner party. It is also a glamorous guide to living, packed with insider tips from the professionals. Jo Malone and Kelly Hoppen give advice on interiors; Giorgio Armani and Theo Fennell share their entertaining secrets; while shoe tips come from designers such as Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo. An indispensable handbook, "House Rules" combines the practicality of a household manual with an acute element of style, and is an utterly chic addition to any homemaker's bookshelf.

An essential for every home
What a great book! It's full of handy, practical tips that you actually need to know. Very easy to read and an essential reference book to make everyday modern domestic life that bit easier - especially if you're short on time but would like your home blissful oasis of calm you always think it should be.
It has some great suggestions and ideas for everything from making a great martini to maintaining your drains & washing machine!
I was given this book as a house warming gift and have since ordered more to give to my friends.
Life Changing!
This book is a complete life-saver! It answers every question you might have about managing a stylish life and home without all the fuss. It covers all the bases - from the very modern (how to sell your old clothes on eBay) to the more conventional (how to be the perfect house guest). Each chapter is filled with a perfect combination of information from the author, recommended shops/products, advice from experts and useful phone numbers and websites.
As a complete disaster in the kitchen I found the fool-proof chapter on cooking especially useful. Not only does it include easy to follow recipes - but the it also goes right back to the basics offering advice on where to buy the best organic products and cooking utensils as well as how to stock your store-cupboard.
This wonderful book has changed my life and I HIGHLY recommend it!
Lots of useful tips and addresses
When i first skimmed this book I was in two minds- was it too basic or was it actually useful? After reading it thorough I have decided it is definitely useful: you get not only how-to tips (e.g. how to keep wool jumpers looking new) but also, and for me more importantly, supplier addresses. Despite having moved to London 6 years ago, I still do not know it as well as Milan, and finally finding the address of a reliable cobbler who can sort out evening shoes properly has been invaluable. This is not an entairtaining book, and it is not even particularly well-written (it seems a re-hash of magazine articles), but it is worth adding to your library for the addresses and the how-to gems.
