Synopsis
The Bible is not the word of God. Biblical Nonsense is a broad look at the tremendous problem of associating divinity with the world's most popular book. This part-philosophical, part-scientific overview explores the Bible's divine treachery, scientific mistakes, historical errors, false prophecies, and comical absurdities. Biblical Nonsense also expands beyond these standard reasons for skepticism by tackling the rationale behind the emergence and perpetuation of Christianity, psychological and sociocultural reasons that drive Christians to cling to their beliefs, and illogical methods of argumentation invoked in the defense of the Bible. Author Dr. Jason Long is a former Christian who condenses the most significant biblical problems into this single volume. Unlike other books in the field that delve into only one topic, this manuscript, comprehensible even to those who have never opened a Bible, is a full-fledged attempt to demonstrate that God's supposed word is a product of human minds, not divine inspiration. Dr.

Long's fresh experiences in the church and advanced levels of educational enlightenment make him the perfect individual to present this vehemently unpopular, yet undeniably appealing topic.

If you only read one book arguing against scripture, make it this one5
This is the most powerfully persuasive and concise book I have yet read on this subject and I have read many others, including Darwin, Dawkins, Dennett and many others.
In my opinion it is unbeatable and should be compulsory reading in all secondary schools.
For a man who was brought up as a regular practising Christian, in the USA, (a land where Christian fundamentalism and fanaticism is just as rife and dangerous,as in countries where Islam follows a similar trend), he presents a totally unbiased and impartial, strictly evidence based, critical appraisal of the Judaeo-christian scriptures.
He accepts only that evidence which is provable and rejects "faith statements" based on the fallacies of "believing what it says in the scriptures solely because it is allegedly the word of God". If you read the bible (old & new testaments) you owe it to yourself to read the arguments that oppose them, before making up your own mind.
Like the author, I too grew up in a Christian household and was indoctrinated for the first 30 years of my life. I regret that I never thought to question it, until my 62nd year and feel I have been living a delusion for the past 32 years. So I feel a little embittered, that I was misled for so long. Thanks Jason. Retired professional SW England, UK.

Excellent read5
Funny, to the point and insightful. This is a great book. You come away from reading this marveling at the crazyness of the Bible, especially the old testemant. Seriously, how on earth did people believe this nonsense? Highly recommended.

Add this to the list of books that should be taught in schools. "The God Delusion", "End of Faith" and "Biblical Nonsense" would be a fine unholy trinity aimed at setting minds free.

Dr Long may well be repeating much of what we have heard before but he has gathered all the information together superbly in a book that is both easy to read and highly enjoyable (unless you're Christian, obviously).

If I have one critisism it would be with the title: "A review of the Bible for Doubting Christians". In my opinion it should be aimed by dyed-in-the-wool Christians just to show them how absurd their holy book really is.
