Synopsis
The Beatles: Day-by-Day, Song-by-Song, Record-by-Record contains all you need to know about the world's greatest band in a single volume. The day-by-day diary covers their entire career from the Quarrymen days in '57 right up to their eventual break-up in April 1970. Learn fascinating facts about the music industry and the Beatles' private lives. The song-by-song section tells you the story behind every song they ever made--with full recording history and session details. And the record-by-record section covers every single, EP, and album released in Britain and the United States--including their Christmas fan-club discs! The book also contains five useful appendices covering everything from chart records and awards to tour dates. With its meticulous research and easy-to-understand approach, this is the only Beatles book that you'll ever need.
Customer Reviews
One of the best I've read
Buy it. It's as simple as that. You won't be disappointed.
You could find yourself reading this for weeks, coming back to it again and again as a work of reference.
It is laid out with the history of the Beatles first that tells practically everything that happened in their lives from when they met, to when they went their seperate ways.
And then, once you know all that, it leads you into the story behind the songs (every song!) Every single song gets their own essay, with a list of musicians and other facts and figures as well, like when it was first released.
And then you get the same treatment done with all the singles, albums and EPS and even the Christmas records that most fans don't even know about.
By the time I got to the end of the book I knew more about the Beatles than the Beatles themselves!
A well researched book with everything you need
This is one of those rare 'catch-all' Beatles books that contains everything in one place. Some books focus on the history, and some books focus on the songs. But this book focuses on... everything!
1) It starts with the long story of the band, from when they first met and went to Hamburg, all through Beatlemania, right on up until they split up. The pages are sprinkled with stories and quotes from everyone - the Beatles, Brian Epstein, their girlfriends and even other stars like The Rolling Stones. It is also good at telling some of the naughty stories, for example, it tells you of the night they smoked drugs with Bob Dylan.
2) The second section tells you the story behind every song they recorded, and also the normal details like who played what and what date they made it etc.
3) The third section is similar to the song section, but tells you the story behind all of their singles and albums. The good thing about this section is that it covers the United States as well, whose records were sometimes completely different to England. And it has chart details and track listings as well.
4) And then we come to the last section, which has tables containing other information such as tour dates and music awards.
It is a very long book, with a lot to read - but it contains practically everything in it. A very entertaining Beatles encyclopedia!
