Product Description

Paediatrics at a Glance is a concise, well–illustrated and accessible guide to all aspects of paediatric medicine. Following the easy–to–use At a Glance format, each double page spread contains a diagram summarising the main differential diagnoses for each presenting symptom, with accompanying text which covers important conditions and management issues in more detail. For each symptom, details are given of the relevant history and examination findings to lookout for during the consultation.

The book is highly structured into nine different sections, which cover the full range of paediatrics. There are distinct sections on development, common symptoms, acute illness, emergencies, the newborn baby, chronic illness and disability. Separate chapters also address evaluating the child, child health surveillance, the child at school, community and family issues.

Written by first class paediatricians, who are practising clinicians as well as enthusiastic teachers, Paediatrics at a Glance fits the budget and reading time of medical students, pre–registration house officers or general practice trainees. It is ideal as primary or supplementary reading on a lecture–based course and is especially useful for exam preparation. If you are about to go on your paediatric attachment, this book is just what you need! Nursing students, physiotherapists and other health professionals wanting an insight into paediatrics as it is practised will also find this book invaluable.

Editorial Reviews

Review
Pre–publication quotes:

′This book gives a good overview of paediatrics as it is practised rather than paediatrics as it is usually written about in textbooks. All in all I think this book will fulfil the core clinical knowledge needs of medical students′

A good 'glance' across paeds4
This book is thin enough to read in a day before an exam, but it really is "at a glance" (can't complain about that; it's what it says on the cover) and is definitely no substitute for a proper textbook. It gives a good overview of each topic (a double-page spread per subject) and presents the 'key facts' diagramatically - in black and white, which is fine, although some colour would be helpful too.

Will cover your ass during revision5
I'm a big fan of concise/review texts, but sometimes one of them stands out... for every specialty the question is, will it be "At a Glance", "Crash Course", "Illustrated Colour Text" etc.

For paeds, it's Paediatrics At a Glance. A double page spread for all the key symptoms and areas you need to know for the paeds exams, including random stuff like making up a feed, correct use of growth charts etc.

It's not a primary textbook but you will be cuddling it at night with a smile on your face come revision time. Buy it and sleep easy.

Great5
New chapters are obesity, allergy, living with chronic illness and the collapsed child. Coloured. As good as older versions. Great pictures that help you remember causes etc. Although some FLKs are pictured, too.
