Published Reviews of the 8th edition

".a short but clear overview of all general surgical and urological topics in fifty chapters."
Barts, Queen Mary and Westfield College

"[The book] covers the fundamentals of general surgery, but also encompasses thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, urology and transplantation. Chapters are set out in a logical manner and frequently include notes on embryological development when appropriate. A strength of this volume is that information is provided by a mixture of lists and text; the book frequently uses the surgical "sieve aproach" which students find helpful for revision purposes."
British Journal of Surgery

Published Reviews of the 10th edition

"Each subject is covered in ample detail and in an excellent format for consolidating knowledge that may have been acquired from broader reading and clinical experience.

.this is one of those books that every medical student should refer to when they begin their surgical attachment."
Cambridge Medicine, Volume 18 No 1, Autumn 2003

Published Reviews of the 10th Edition

"The key to its sucess is the objective of its authors– to set out briefly the important facts and fundamentals in a logical manner.

.This edition has succeeded in achieving these aims without the need for a signficant increase in number of pages or the introduction of colour, and is complemented with some excellent and simple line diagrams.

.I am sure this 10th edition will emain popular with its targeted audience– medical students– and will provide them a very handy revision text."

Published Reviews of the 10th Edition

"It covers core knowledge very well and is particularly good for helping students to organize their fund of knowledge in a useful form in preparation for application of that knowledge in treating a disease.

.This is a well–assembled book that would be excellent for medical students learning the general principles of surgery."

Absolutely Essential!!!5
A great book. All that one needs to know for finals is contained in this little life-saver. A very easy read, with great diagrams and tables. I highly recommend it to all students who need to get to grip with the essential facts before finals.

fast, efficient review of the main surgical topics.5
This excellent book serves as a fast, efficient review of the main surgical topics. Especially helpful for exams when you don' t have much time. Also gives differential diagnosis. If you want to become a surgeon, you will certainly have to go for the bigger textbooks. It will be enough, though, for your finals/USMLE step2.

Essential for any final year student!5
I'm studying for finals at the moment and recently bought this book - possibly one of the best purchases in the last 5 years! All the main topics of general surgery are included, along with concise, informative chapters on vascular surgery, physiology, neurosurgery, breast, urology etc. All the information is pitched at an undergraduate or junior doc level so there is no space wasted on the non-essential. Plus a mini-biography of every surgeon ever to put his or her name to something is included, to make you feel extra-intelligent.
Awesome.
