Synopsis
Deadly wolves attack throughout the kingdom of Belbidia, while the king's wife-to-be has been kidnapped. For both of these, the Barony of Torra Alta is blamed. The heroes must face magic and blood in their quests to avenge the wrongs done to them and restore the Trinity of priestesses.

An admirable follow-up to a classic!
It was always going to be hard for this book to live up to my expectations after the Jane's earlier classic, The Lament Of Abalone. However, The Bard Of Castagard is a different type of book altogether. Whereas 'The Lament...' was ethereally romantic and otherworldly, this book for the most part follows the adventures of the very down-to-earth May. May is not a heroine in the classically-perceived sense, but she has an honest courage and innocence which charms, just the same, and marks her out as a very special character who the reader can really identify with.
A different kind of book altogether from 'The Lament...' but beautifully written and immensely enjoyable.
Superb.
EXCITING, GRIPPING, A RITE OF PASSAGE ON GROWING UP.
I FIRST BOUGHT JANE WELCH'S RUNES OF WAR A FEW YEARS AGO AND HAVE BEEN AN AVID FAN EVER SINCE. THIS STORY FOLLOWS ON SEAMLESSLY FROM THE LAMENT OF ABOLONE BUT I THINK THAT A BRIEF RECAP ON THAT BOOK WOULD HAVE BEEN HANDY JUST TO REFRESH THE PLOT.
MANY OTHER AUTHORS DO THIS AND IT MEANS THAT THE READER CAN PICK UP THE BOOK AND GO STRAIGHT INTO THE STORY WHICH IS CONVENIENT IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE PREVIOUS ONE. PERHAPS THIS IS THE PUBLISHERS' IDEA SO YOU WILL BUY THE OTHERS AND I CAN'T BLAME THEM AS THEY HAVE TO SELL BOOKS TO MAKE MONEY. BUT I PERSONALLY WOULDN'T BE INTERESTED ENOUGH TO GO AND TRY AND BUY THE PREVIOUS BOOKS JUST TO BRING ME UP TO DATE AND THEREFORE WOULDN'T 'BUY' A NEW AUTHOR MID SERIES.
BUT IN JANE WELCH'S CASE THIS WOULD BE WORTH THE TROUBLE AND EXPENSE AS THE WRITING IS CRISP, FREE FLOWING AND ENTERTAINING AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK IN THE SERIES!
Exiting, amusing and thrilling!
The latest in the book of Ond (With dots over the 'o'), this book is exiting, amusing and thrilling, with romance aplenty. Old friends, speaking loosely, return to haunt or feature again, and this tale is everything you expect from Mz Welch. I awaited this book with anticipation, and was certainly not disapointed!!
