Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Packed with information, photos and hundreds of great quotes from seasons three and four of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Watcher's Guide Volume 2 is just as comprehensive as the first Watcher's Guide. For newcomers, the background to the Slayer, her Watcher and their duties to fight the forces of darkness are sketched in, then the book moves rapidly on to character profiles and brief episode guides for seasons three and four, all liberally sprinkled with chunks of razor-sharp dialogue and explanations of pop culture references. An insightful section, "The Pain", focuses on the doomed relationships, deaths of loved ones, experiences of betrayal and lack of trust that have forced the characters to develop and change. These are the serious stories about growing up that have always been at the heart of Buffy.

Having thoroughly dissected the characters, the book then goes behind the scenes with profiles of the actors, an in-depth look at the many aspects of production, listings of featured bands and songs and a brief section on merchandising. The main omission is any focus on monsters--for that, turn to the excellent Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Monster Book, which goes into encyclopaedic detail on all the monsters to have appeared on the show. This book is a more general companion, and performs its duties as well, and as sassily, as the Slayer herself. --Elizabeth Sourbut

A great book5
This book is a must for any true buffy fan. It has cast info, ep guides and more.

A follow up that's as good as what came before ...5
It seems that every popular show nowadays has some kind of episode guide/companion book hastily thrown together to go with it so its a delight to see one that is actually worth the price and even better, its as good as, if not better than Volume One. To any Buffy fans, this book is a must and even if you're not a fan of the show, dip in - its informative without being gushing and has some excellent colour stills of the cast and behind the scenes info - and you might find yourself realising that its more than just a 'kids show'.

Definitely matches expectations from the first Guide5
This companion to seasons three and four is detailed, with excellent synopses for each episode complete with notes on continuity, relationships etc, a good selection of photos from the set, the show and publicity shots, and an amazingly in-depth guide to how the show is put together with interviews with cast and representatives from most of the crew areas. Certainly value for money.

But as a Buffy/Angel fan (of the couple), I was disappointed. I felt that in both the section on romantic relationships and also in these sections of the episode guide, their relationship was played down, as if the writers let their knowledge of the end of season three colour how they wrote the relationship actually during season three. Some details of the 'Angel' crossover eps would also have been nice. In contrast to that, I felt that the Buffy/Riley relationship was played up to an extent not backed up by the show.

But buy it anyway, because the other stuff makes it worth it.
