Product Description

Daniel Kevles traces the study and practice of eugenics - the science of "improving" the human species by exploiting theories of heredity - from its inception in the late 19th century to its most recent manifestation within the field of genetic engineering. Dealing seriously and objectively with the development of human genetics as a scientific and medical discipline, it also contains stories of competition and conflict among scientists who have dominated the field.

Customer Reviews

A very informative readable book5
This book gives an excellent overview of a belief which has caused pain and suffering to millions of people worldwide. From the beginnings of this doubtful practice right through to modern events, facts are related in an easy to understand manner. The author, although sympathetic to the sensitive nature of the topic, manages to inject his dry sense of humour in the narritive.
Whatever you currently think about science being used in this manner, this is a must - read!
