This is a major textbook covering all areas of knowledge that paramedics in the UK today are expected to be familiar with, and describing how to cope with the huge range of situations they will face. From resuscitation to emergency vehicle driving, from care of the elderly to chemical incidents, each chapter is written by an expert practising in the field. The book is highly illustrated, and designed to be as accessible as possible, with highlighted 'golden rules', mnemonics and step-by-step procedures. For the rapidly growing number of paramedics, this book will undoubtedly become a well-thumbed 'bible'.

EMERGENCY CARE-A TEXTBOOK FOR PARAMEDICS
I am the proud owner of about 30 medical textbooks. However, this is the one I turn to the most.
It is simple in its explanation without reducing the quality or quantity of its content. It uses many diagrams and photographs to substantiate the text, and it the only British based paramedic textbook I have come across. Where appropriate, it also provides a 'further reading' list.
It isn't perfect, and as with everything in life there are some minor indiscretions, but I like it. I use it as my first port of call, and if need be follow it up with more in-depth study. It is definately worth owning.
A British Book - about time
It is so nice to finally find a book for pre-hospital care that is not American. This book provides information on how things are done in the UK which helps immensely with understanding the principles of emergency care.An excellent read for any British paramedic. The only thing I would say is bring out an unpdated version - guidelines change so often that some of the information is now out of date.
A comprehensive and excellently written book.
From a Paramedic to a First aider you will find this book essential. I wanted to know more theory and advance practice behind simply First Aid and it fulfilled all my expectations and more. The book has well divided chapters and has the latest protocols.
You do not need a huge knowledge of the underlying principles of emergency care but without being well grounded in First Aid or an associated skill one may find it difficult to read.
It has numerous indices and medical terms are explained with simple short terminology. For any person who has an interest in this subject and has the patience to look up new words in the index it is an extremely worthwhile investment. The book deals with "How to park an Ambulance" to "How to treat a Tension Pneumothorax"
A definitive book that gives an incite into the world of emergency medicine and the theory behind advanced treatment. I cannot recommend this book enough!
It added a new dimension to my understanding of medicine and its applications.
