Average customer review:Product Description
This is a major core textbook of anatomy and physiology in childbearing. It is written to present childbearing in the context of changes to non-pregnant physiology; therefore, both anatomy and physiology, their changes in pregnancy, and pathophysiology are all described. The book is divided into four sections, preconception, pregnancy, labour and puerperium and it places childbearing in a totally biological context so that concepts are drawn from disciplines such as evolution, ecology, biochemistry and cell biology. At all times, the text is related to practice and care-giving. Features: * Places childbearing in a biological context to allow depth without denigrating social sciences contribution to care * Incorporates recent medical practice in caring for women and babies with problems * Paediatrics chapters are written by a specialist nurse/lecturer * Emphasises the links between knowledge and practice

Customer Reviews
Core text, possibly to replace Myles / Mayes in the future
This core text will assist all midwives in the basic needs of the childbearing woman. It contains more depth than Mayes / Myles basic texts, but unfortunately Stables references their work an incredible amount. Most of the diagrams and pictures are from these basic texts, and to get a clearer idea, diffrent pictures would have been an advantage. The text is more critical and therefore appropriate for the degree student and those wishing to improve their practice. A good buy generally, but unnecessary if you already have a basic midwifery text.
Excellent text book for student midwives.
I have found this book to be very easy to read, the text is broken up by diagrams and illistrations which always help to put things into perspectus. A must have book for all student midwives. EXCELLENT
a heavy going book that has all information needed
this book is very good and goes into physiology in relation to midwifery in some detail. although i thought it would have been better than it was. you will need some background knowledge on anatomy and physiology to find it useful.
