Product Description

Handbook of Pediatric Intensive Care is a highly practical guide to the care of very sick children, giving clear and concise advice on diagnosis and management. The book is divided into two parts the first on general topics that orientate the reader to the environment of paediatric intensive care, the second takes an organ-system approach, with consideration of specific diagnoses and interventions.

Handbook of Paediatric Intensive Care5
A brilliant book, covering the basic science principles and logical clinical approach to any child requiring intensive care assessment and support.
Instead of listing endless diseases and their management, the reader is lead through a journey of fundamental principles, with appropriate clinical examples.
The clarity of the text covering pathophysiology, clinical assessment and ITU physics/monitoring is superb.
I would highly recommend this book to all Paediatric, Paediatric Surgery and ITU/Anaesthetic Trainees.
Being a small book, it also fits well into a pocket, but don't underestimate the wealth of information that it contains, it packs a mean punch of wonderful information.
I think this is probably the best book that I have bought in the last 15 years.

The book that I wish I'd written.5
This is the best textbook of Intensive Care nevermind Paediatric Intensive that has been written. In fact I wish that I'd written it. It is incorrectly entitled "a handbook". I would call it "understanding PICU". Gale Pearson has condensed masses of work and presented a brilliantly concise explanation of how Paediatric Intensive Care medicine works. I would recommend it for any paediatric trainee as the pathphysiological approach will help you understand how disease works and therefore help in treating patients. The only criticism is its presentation-it doesn't read easily, so; and read it very carefully (particularly the superb diagrams and accompanying notes) and learn.

This book deserves an award!5
I don't usually bother writing reviews for books on this website but I had to for this one; it's outstanding! This is not just a book for those working in PICU but for paediatrics in general or for anyone who might be dealing with sick children. It is highly readable, has great illustrations and has the best 10 pages on Neonataology of any textbook I have ever read (In fact i recomended this book to a colleague starting a Neonatal ICU job purely for the small but perfectly formed Neonatal chapter).
