    From the Author
This book is intended to be a friend, companion and reliable resource for any nursing student in the UK. I have written this book as a mentor to a student nurse, in a clear, honest and direct manner. It gives information on topics you will need for the academic course such as nursing models, medication administration and reflective practice, how to survive (and thrive) in clinical placements, essential government publications you need to understand for your practice, and practical hints and tips to help you get the most out of your nurse education. This book would be very useful for any nursing student in the UK, any individual considering nursing as a career, or any individual mentoring or supporting student nurses.

    Customer Reviews

    Excellent book5
This book will give any 1st and 2nd year student nurse the insight you need before and during your course. I'm in my second year and i still refer to parts, it is easy reference and covers most things you need to know. I would have bought this for double the price it's at! One of the best things about this book is it doesn't matter what pathway you are on it's good for all to read.

    THE REAL SURVIVAL GUIDE5
Funnily enough, i bought this book looking at the Amazon reviews and the fact that so many people were impressed by it. I bought it when i had been accepted at uni initially. To be honest, when i first bought it i kind of put it in my Uni book box and forgot about it, but i came across it after a month or so after starting the course.

By that time i knew more about the course and had some basic knowledge about our requirements and outcomes etc. I started looking through random sections where i required more clarification or information.

Surprise surprise it was a Godsend. I have used it so much and have even used it for random quotes in an essay or two and the reflection.

I am now about 2 years 9 months into the course and i still dip into it even now. It has all the important bits and some interesting stories and anecdotes that help your understanding. What i am trying to say is that it is an invaluable book and provides information on all aspects of the course from academic issues to placements and also sections on NMC as well as legal issues.

It really is a good buy and will be worth it throughout your 3 years. Hope you feel the same way :-)

    In a class by itself5
I agree that this book is really best suited for access students, cadets and new student nurses, but for what it is, its perfect. A third year student will have found out most of what's in there I'm sure, but the hard way! I plan on keeping mine throughout the course.

There really isn't anything out there that helps you get used to what people expect from you. This book puts it all out in an easy to read way. Clear, common sense. I've found it especially helpful that the NMC documents are in the book, and that the book is full of little bits of information like the definitions of nursing and the different nursing models, and I love the terminology section. I've used parts of the book for two assignments and it saved me time. I'm a mother of two, and I asked my partner to read the section that talks about getting help from other people, and it helped him understand what I need. And it's helping me get my head around what being a nurse really means to me.

This is a sterling little book, easy to read, funny and helpful. There are better study guides and nursing theory books but this isn't either of those. It's in a class by itself. Any student or someone hoping to become a nursing student should get this. It's not a lot of money for a very useful and enjoyable book.
