About the Author
Janet and Stewart Farrar were two of the world's best-known writers on the subject of Wicca until Stewart Farrar's death in 2000. Their Eight Sabbats for Witches and The Witches' Way have become standard works. Stewart was also a successful writer of occult novels and of television and radio plays. Janet is an occult painter. Janet Farrar lives in Kells, Co. Meath, Ireland.

Simply Fantastic...bringing the feminine divine to life
The female aspect of the divine has been neglected for a long time, but in this book the Farrars have managed to shed a lot of light on the subject, withouth taking anything away from the masculine.

Split into three sections, the first covering the archetypal roles of the goddess, the second looking more closely at a few goddesses from around the world and the third acting as an encycolpedia for the diverse Goddesses that are and have been worshipped around the world.

For those with a Pagan leaning the second section also contains suggested rituals and prayers for how to approach particular Goddesses.

This is a truly brilliant book if you ever felt that you needed a little bit of an extra female touch in your life, or if you are just interested in mythology.

Good effort
Mixing feminist thought with religion, Janet Farrar has made a good study of the Goddess as she appears through different cultures. Farrar discusses the importance of the figure of a Goddess before moving on to a more in-depth examination of many goddesses, including Ishtar, Isis, Maat, Aphrodite and Hecate. Rituals for each goddess are also included, however if you are NOT of the Alexandrian or Gardnerian tradition, or simply do not belong to a coven, you might find these difficult and/or pointless. The last third of the book is simply a weighty dictionary which makes this a good reference book, but sadly the tone is too dry and too Wiccan-oriented for me to give it a higher rating.
