Family Favorite
After reading this book with our 6 year old son, we eagerly awaited the new TROY film. But, alas, what a disappointment the film was compared to this wonderful, magical book. Our son loves it. As soon as we finished it the first time, we immediately started over from the beginning. Beautifully written and illustrated, I recommend this book without reservations!
wonderful
Black Ships Before Troy is a wonderful version of the trojan seige. It keeps the complexity of the story, but moves it along at an exciting and thrilling pace. Gritty and poetical, this fantastic story has just inspired my neice to read the original version by Homer. A wonderful introduction to greek classics, or just a great story.
Ancient story, beautifully re-told
My 7 year old loves this book. I read him a chapter every evening. Rosemary Sutcliffe's language is so beautiful its a pleasure to read it to him. The illustrations match the mystery of the story.
This book led us on to the Odyssey (The Wanderings of Odysseus) and the Aeneid (In search of a Homeland) by the same publishers. But this is the favourite. We're now on our second reading - I daresay not the last.
