Customer Reviews

It's not perfect, but it's a pretty good effort!5
This is ideal for those of you that read music, but can also be of interest for those that don't, since lyrics, chords and tablature are provided.

Most of the songs consist of the following;

Vocal Staff: melody line, harmonies, chord symbols(above the staff) and lyrics below.

Others Staff: Piano/Brass/Strings/Organ/chorus harmonies e.t.c

Guitar1 Staff with Tablature staff below: Melody line with chords.

Guitar2 Staff with Tablature staff below: Melody line with chords.
(If it's a rhythm guitar, then staff has rhythm/strum patterns and 'tab' has chord diagrams.)

Bass Staff with Tablature staff below: Melody line with chords.

Drums (Bass clef) Staff : Bass drum (A), Snare (E), Hi tom (G), floor tom (C), hats & cymbals (B above), Hat with foot (F below)

THIS BOOK NEEDS TO BE EDITED AND REVISED!3
This is a classic book. It's the most talked about rock sheet-music book in score format. But it has ALOT of mistakes (duh!)! Some of the songs are way off - especially the songs with more than 4 instruments! The transcriptions are sloppy. And being handwritten makes the pages look ugly. I think Barnes Music Engraving Ltd. should go through the entire Beatles catalogue and transcribe all of the albums! The "Off The Record" series are, for lack of a better word, perfect! The Beatles Complete Scores should at least be revised and edited. They need it! This book is far too important to be left alone! Please, guys, edit this book until it is perfect! How 'bout it Hal Leonard?

I was confused but now I'm not5
After watching archive footage of The Beatles performances; I noticed that the fingering of the bass guitar, in this book, was often different from that of Paul McCartneys,I was confused for a while, but then I happened to read an article where McCartney talks of retuning his bass down one semitone, in order to avoid playing in open E. So, when you read a review that slags off a Beatles book, you might want to bear this in mind; since The Beatles used all sorts of tricks like: capos, retuning e.t.c. to make their jobs easier. Unfortunately, for us, this means that we would need about three or more instruments, all with differing tunings, in order to play all of their songs exactly as they did. This is a great book, again it's not perfect, but the author has done a pretty good job.
