Excellent little book.
Bought this yesterday in a discount book shop, and am very happy with it. Photos and images accompany the songs, which chart the history of music from 1899/1900 (I'll be your sweetheart), through the decades (including "Alexander's Ragtime Band" and "Somewhere over the Rainbow", all the way through to "Wonderwall") to the 1990s.

Songs are explained in their historical context, and the music is printed in melody arrangements, so that they can be played on instruments. This really appealed to me, as I'm teaching myself to play clarinet, but played a couple of these on the recorder yesterday. For non-musicians, it's an interesting, informative and lively history of music, without the dry theory.

Excellent motivation for me to improve my clarinet playing, and an interesting educational source for our family, too. Good fun too - plenty of karaoke favourites in here, for those of good lung capacity.

Highly recommended.
