About the Author
His Holiness the Dalai Lama was born in 1935 in the village of Takster in Tibet. He was enthroned officially on 22 February 1940 as the XIV Dalai Lama, but Chinese occupation forced him to flee the country in 1959. Since then he has campaigned tirelessly for aid for Tibet and also for other international causes. His efforts for peace and the environment have earned him many awards, including the Palketta Award, the Raoul Wallenberg Congressional Human Rights Award and the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize.
