Customer Reviews
A great book for people who want their work to be fun!
I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy read, taking less than two hours from start to finish, but the thoughts and plans it provoked have kept me thinking for months. The book tackles an issue familiar to older (!) high-earners - Why on earth am I working at this job at this pace? The book is not an academic treatise, but nips along at a good pace with lots of amusing anecdotes and cartoons to illustrate the very serious points made. If you are preparing for a mid-life crisis, read this book!
Possibly the best book of its kind
This is not your typical career decision book.... and that is its greatest strength. The author writes in a way that is light and easy to read, and with that all important appropriate touch of humour. It has no pretenses to being "the" book that will help you make your career choice, yet you will undoubtedly learn a lot about yourself and why you have made past decisions in your life. Moreover, there is a lot to be learned from this book about life in general, not just with regard to your working life. And you will find yourself laughing out loud to the many cartoons the book contains.
'Your Money or Your Life' is not just for those in their 30's and 40's who have 'made the grade' and now wonder what it was all about. I am 22 and have found this book inspirational. Having worked in the financial industry since I left school and progressed to a fairly well paid position, I was following the well trodden path of "keeping up with the Jones'". My chosen career field would involve much lower pay and "status", but I would be doing something more worthwhile that I enjoy. This book has helped me to make that decision, and it can undoubtedly help you in the same way if you are prepared to approach it with an open-mind.
A career change book that actually works
Stephen Covey describes this book as "a true beacon of light for those struggling at the crossroads of life". Well, that's exactly how it's been for me. It's an extraordinary book, profound (I've read it three times so far) and yet easy to read. It makes other books on career change seem shallow and/or unnecessarily complicated. And it works! - after feeling trapped in my career for many years, I now see a clear path forward.
