In order to achieve the goals set out in the National Literacy Framework document for word level work, young children need plenty of opportunities to explore, to become aware of, and to learn to recognise the sounds that make up words, whilst having fun with language. The aim of this book, is to do just that. Through the medium of songs and rhymes, it aims to develop an awareness of onset and time. There are songs for exploring vocabulary, pattern, alliteration, phonemes, digraphs and consonant clusters. In addition there are teacher's notes with ideas for activities to support the songs. Helen MacGregor has written Listening to Music" and "Tom Thumb's Musical Maths" while Kaye Umasky is known for her "Three Singing Pigs, Three Rapping Rats" and "Phantasmagoria"."

Year One
Having swiftly recieved this book from Amazon I am thoroughly delighted with it. My class of five year olds and myself are very enthusiastic about it and have used it everyday! It will be a great asset to my bookshelf, and the class will benefit from it greatly.
This is a super book !
We use this book at least once a week in our literacy hour, and the wonderful songs are enjoyed by children and adults alike. Don't worry if you can't sing like Pavarotti, the tunes are usually ones you ( and the children ) already know so everyone soon gets the idea. Literacy has never been more fun !
My class of six-year olds were begging for more!
A great resource for anyone who lacks confidence in their musical ability. This book helps me add variety to my literacy teaching and the children love the songs.
