An Excellent Resource
I teach in Foundation Stage and also music through the primary age range. I have found this book very easy to use with well thought out projects based on topics which inspire young children such as space, minibeasts and the circus. It's easy to use and dip in to and what makes it even more special is that there is also a CD with high quality music to work with. Although this is basically a dance and music resource, art and literacy feature strongly as well.
Good variety of music and video clips
I use this for children aged 3-5 and thoroughly recommend it for this age group and up to the age of 10. There are lots of tracks (over 20) with a variety of music - Chinese, Indian, Circus theme, classical etc. The video clips are very good. The children love watching the moon landing of 1968. There are lots of other video clips of children dancing as snowflakes etc, and I love the 'chopping vegetables' expressive dance with 'snappy choppy' music. I highly recommend this if you would like to do something different with the children.
An incredibly useful book.
I don't normally write reviews on here, but having just recieved this in the post today I'm keen to let everyone know how good this book is. It contains loads of great ideas for teaching dance, with a wide range of music andreally helpful DVD clips. I can't wait to teach my class some of the lessons from this book and will be able to do so with confidence thanks to the inspiration it has given me. Many of the ideas I can link to my topics this year e.g. Space, Jack and the Beanstalk, Plants, Circus, Other cultures.
