About the Author
Robin Knox-Johnston entered the Merchant Navy at the age of 17, obtaining his Master's Certificate 8 years later. Of the 9 competitors he was the only one to complete the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race in 1968 after 312 days alone at sea and win the trophy for the first solo non-stop circumnavigation. Since then Robin has participated in many ocean races including the Whitbread, and in 1994 co-skippered Enza with Sir Peter Blake to set a new world record for a circumnavigation. He has been UK Yachtsman of the Year twice, International Yachtsman of the Year in 1995, and was knighted in 1995. He still owns and sails Suhaili.

I love this book. It is an amazing story. Anyone interested remotely insailing should love it. If you haven't read it, I strongly recomend it.The idea of sailing from Falmouth single handed and alone non-stop aroundthe world in a 32 foot wooden yacht, back into Falmouth again - is simple- yet an awesome challenge for 1968 and before the days of GPS, computersand modern boat materials. An amazing tale, I treasure this book.

Quite an adventure
I really enjoyed this book.
It gives an insight into the mind of one of the greatest adventurers of our time.
1968 seems a long time ago (I was only a 1yo baby!) but this guy was out there doing his stuff.
He conveys a sense of freedom we can only dream of these days.

A True Classic
Extremely well written by a truly great Englishman. What comes across in this book is his sheer down-to-earth, common-sense approach to a formidable enterprise. If you want the poetic appreciation of the sea, read Bernard Moitessier. If, however, you want a rattling good yarn, told exactly like it was, read this book - the first of several by this master mariner, whose adventures have continued to the present day.
