Product Description

In the past, slipcasting was primarily considered an industrial method. Today, however, ceramic artists are adapting its techniques to create a wide range of beautiful and highly individualised pieces. Sasha Wardell clearly explains and demonstrates the techniques involved and shows how they can be adapted for the studio workshop. This book gives the reader a thorough grounding in all aspects of mould making and slipcasting. Examples of the work of an international group of artists are used to illustrate the breadth and versatility of the work that can be created. The images in this second edition have been updated to colour, along with a newly revised chapter on individual approaches by well-known contemporary artists.

Customer Reviews

primarily about making moulds3
I bought this book to learn more about slipcasting - techniques and helpful hints. I was a bit disappointed with it because although it has a lot of information about making plaster moulds for slipcasting, there is not much information/help about the actual process of slipcasting, which is not an easy skill to master. I am still tring to improve my slipcasting technique by trial and error. This book really tells me little more than the information I have read in general books about ceramic techniques.

Slipcasting4
This is an immensely useful book giving practical advice by a very experienced expert in this area, Sasha Wardell. The book addresses both the basic knowledge and understanding covering the material and tools, then moving on to sections on Model making, mould making and slip casting, followed by the challenge of bone china (a particular expertise of the author) with a final section looking at experts from around the world. there is a lot of technical detail as well as troubleshooting charts to understand what might go wrong and how to fix it. An excellent book on this topic, which is only to be expected from both the series of ceramic handbooks from A&C Black, and from such an experienced artist as Sasha Wardell. In my view well worth buying for those ceramicists wishing to explore slipcasting or for collectors and students wishing to understand more about this ceramic technique.
