Around the World in Many Books
I've been looking forward to this title appearing for some time and now it's finally out, I have to say I'm not disappointed. Imagine a world atlas and gazzeteer filled not with details of countries, cities and areas, but of descriptions the literature that is set in those places.
The book is arranged by continent, enabling the avid bibliophile to read their way around the world. So if you're going to be visiting -for example- South America, this book describes some of the famous (and undeservingly less known) works of literature about and from that continent. As such, the book is both and invaluable literary reference, an entertaining read in itself and a catalogue of temptations, leading one toward books you may not have discovered. It's also invaluable for globe-trotters, even if they are only armchair ones.
The style is lively, informative and the book is factually accurrate, unlike many reference works these days. Although it details many books the well-read person will know, it also covers many, many others I (for one) am yet to enjoy. First rate stuff from a couple of guys who clearly really know their books.
