Sleuth: A Play4
My first encounter with Anthony Shaffer's Sleuth was in December 2002. The show was astounding and the dialogue and plot twists were dumbfounding. The very next day I bought the film starring Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine. The movie was near perfect. So quite recently I purchased the original script of the play. I think the script is good, but somehow the movie struck me as being even better. This is probably because Shaffer wasn't stuck with the living room but had a chance for more outdoor scenes and scenes around the house. The script is loaded with snappy dialogue but after reading some scripts by Agatha Christie I feel it's a little sketchy since it doesn't have very detailed stage directions. The black and white illustrations from the movie are in two bunches in different parts, not scattered with the text and this is good in my opinion. Overall it's a very clever "whodunwhat" and definitely worth the read.

The real McCoy5
A great play! Funny and full of black humour. Very British! It's strange to see Micheal Caine play the younger character in the old movie and the older character in the recent movie (with Jude Law as the younger one). But only the book is the real McCoy.
