Practical and encouraging for the painter of any level
I acquired this book years ago, and still refer to it frequently (and now own all Mr. Taylor's subsequent books!). This is the first book I bought to learn to paint with watercolors. I was drawn in by Taylor's lovely depictions of structures--some classicly beautiful and some quite ordinary--but he gives them all a sense of being special and worthy. I also like his friendly teaching style and encouraging "have a go" attitude. He gives you just what you need to know, without bogging us down with too much detail or pretentious "techniques." It is quite an achievement to make a rusty farmhouse or a brick wall look exciting, but he does. I also bought the video version of this book and liked it just as much.

I was led by this book and Taylor's "Painting Houses and Gardens in Watercolor" to do many custom home portraits for family and friends!
