Product Description

You toss and turn all night, worrying and fretting, to wake up tired and bad-tempered the next day. This is bad enough, but persistent sleeplessness and insomnia can lead to tension, irritability, breakdown in relationships and accidents, especially on the roads. And sleeping pills are not a long-term solution. Now you hold the answer. 'Beating Insomnia' has been specially devised to help you understand the mechanisms controlling your sleep. It teaches sleep management techniques, helps you identify particular sleep problems and is packed with ideas and advice to help you cope with your own disturbed sleep. A 28 day Sleep Diary helps you analyse your sleep patterns so that you can decide on the best way to tackle your sleep problems. The 60 minute CD will lull you into deep and refreshing sleep to help focus your mind and relax your body. A Unique Internet Link will bring you to an on-line diary devised by the author that will enhance the data you have already collected in the book's diary.

Customer Reviews

From the author5
It's always discouraging when one gets a negative review. When I heard about the one from LYCOS I assumed it was really a competing author! However, I also wondered why, if the reader was an insomniac, they hadn't got any benefit out of the book.
I'm currently doing a rewrite of this book as well as completing another one and have taken and will take comments on board.
Some comments of my own though - there are rarely any magic solutions to chronic insomnia, it takes time, patience and endurance to fix a long-term problem. Understanding sleep should be helpful in enabling onself to manage it. People new to insomnia may not know the basics, so they are always worth repeating. And, as Agatha Christie says " Good advice is always certain to be ignored, but that's no reason not to give it."

Insomniac's Review of Beating Insomnia1
This is probably not the best book to get if all you're looking for is a practical guide to overcoming insomnia. It seems to contain a huge amount of peripheral information about sleep patterns, causes of insomnia and the kind of stuff you'd be keen to get your hands on if you were writing a thesis on the subject. It also suggests methods for analysing your own sleep patterns and keeping a "sleep diary". However assuming I'm not drinking 6 cups of black coffee each evening, not taking extreme exercise after 10 p.m. and I'm not an adolescent with an obscure brain function, I think I would be hard pressed to find any useful advice in this book on getting a good night's sleep .

The Best Way To Beat Insomnia5
I have used Dr. Idzikowski's CD for about three years (after reading the book and completing the diary) and I have also bought several books (with the accompanying CDs) and given them to family and friends who have suffered from insomnia, most of whom, I regret to say, have not persevered with the CD, due, I believe, to not being sufficiently disciplined.
I would not be without it and always take it with me when I go away on short or long breaks.
I found that it took me a little time to get used to it but once I had familiarised myself with the CD it certainly worked for me.
I like both sides of the CD but use the second side to get me to sleep, and it works alot better than any medicatiion as I wake up without any side effects.
I can hardly wait for the updated version and am delighted to learn that Dr. Idzikowski is working on a new book, with accompanying CD I hope.
