Product Description
The typical image of Dark Age Britain is that after the Romans left, developments came to a halt until the Anglo-Saxons arrived. Drawing on archaeological and other sources, the author of this study argues that the political structures persevered to become those of the Middle Ages.

A great synopsis of Sub-Roman Britain
This book covers British Political Continuity from 300-800AD, in other words the so-called Dark Ages. Where other historians and archaeologist shy away from conclusions, Dark brilliantly re-examens the available evidence and combines it with new material, though always keeping a sound scientific footing. His conclusions are refreshing; the Roman influence in Dark Age Britain was much more present than previously thought of, culturally as well as politically. Roman provinces went on into sub-Roman kingdoms, which endured until Norman times. A must for the student of the period!
A seminal work
Referred to by many who study this field, this is a seminal work and a must to read.
