Essential companion to bright A-level Physics students
This was provided as a "second text" when I was studying for A-level Physics (the exam that 18 year olds take in the UK), however, this became the main source of knowledge for me.
It's also been useful to quickly look up some basic physics even during my degree. Indeed, the best thing about "Wheelan & Hodgson" is the ease of finding the information you want: Every topic is neatly sectioned and explained concisely with clear diagrams. Important equations are boxed and advanced topics beyond the scope of A-levels are clearly marked as shaded regions.
Core topics in the traditional physics syllabus is covered as well as chapters on fluids, thermodynamics and electronics, which are generally not covered in A-level. Amid the dumbing down of A-level physics text books with colourful but irrelevant pictures, it is reassuring to see this no-nonsense text still going.
An essential text for any bright A-level candidate wanting a straightforward explanation or interested in advanced topics.
A fantastic adventure
I've always been searching a book. A book that saves you from the ocean of papers, a piece of gold shining from loads of brass. After I first met 'Principles of Physics ' and its twin text book from a library. I was desperate to own them.
If you'd read one book about physics and expect it to be efficient, this is it. I t aims clearly at satisfying your own curiosity by providing essential pre university knowledge and gives you a precious chance to exercise your knowledge on daily phenomenon, like the quadratic curve described by water surface in a cylinder container rotating about its central axis--not abstract but clearly solved by basic calculus. How jubilant it is to realise the magic of mathematics tools in physics in the world of reality!
Different from reading other exercise books, if offers a new vision on solving problems which is so well structured and organised. Though government is always denying, A level exams are certainly steadily becoming easier. Looking back twenty years ago, there's so much to discover and to enjoy.
One book gives you all.
A must buy for A level Physics Students
This book is truly superb and is completely essential when studying A level or any other higher level Physics. It explains things clearly and thoroughly, and will definiely help you get top marks. If you are studying physics and don't have this book, BUY IT NOW!
