An excellent investigation of the text, its themes and relation to the rest of Sartre's thought. Well presented and structured.

Customer Reviews

A very comprehensive enjoyable book5
It's a pretty simple read and you will acquire all the fundamentals of Sartre's philosophy. A philosophy which (like all existential thought) is far more engaging than the philosophies of rationalism and empiricism.

An excellent read5
Probably one of the most lucid pieces of philosophy I have ever read. Sartre answers his critics with convincing explanations of his philosophy in the form of a lecture- "Existentialism is a Humanism" are his lecture notes bought together. The style of his writing is simple and direct and he addresses the problems of achieving authenticity and why some have criticised it. One question I would like Sartre to have answered is the egoism that a life purely devoted to authenticity may lead to. Existentialism in its most direct form leaves out others, it fails to realise our ties to other individuals; social tendencies. Authors such as Gide in "The Immoralist" highlight this problem.
