good book for beginners4
I couldn't quite give this book full marks, but i definitely recommend it. First the good points, The basic underlying principles of magic, Individual and detailed chapters on the following divination methods TAROT,I CHING,GEOMANTIC DIVINATION(excellent practical instructions), Making your magical weapons, Chapters on making, using talismans and Astral Projection(3 separate methods are given),others on invocation and evocation(not perfect but ok) and one on self initiation for the lone worker. My main criticism of the book is the lack of a chapter on the QABALLAH. As this is at the heart of the western magical tradition ,the omission is strange. It would have been more complete with chapters on a brief history of western magic, and introductions to alchemy, astrology as well. However the book is worth it for the tarot,i ching, talismans, geomantic divination, astral projection, and meaning of magic chapters. RECOMMENDED

Every ceremonial magician's bookshelf should have one!4
Now a classic in the field of practical texts, "Techniques" gives detailed instruction in the performance of a range of magical skills and rituals. Proceeding from a discussion of what magic is, it introduces the fundamentals of setting up and purifying a basic temple and describes the finer points of pentagram and hexagram rituals and the Rose Cross Ritual, all of which are extensively used in many workings.

The process of creating your own elemental weapons is also laid out for you, various forms of divination are outlined (although you would need more detailed texts to be able to do them justice) and the construction and charging of talismans is explained.

Whilst not a complete manual for the absolute beginner, it certainly rates as a very useful handbook of basic reminders for a practitioner who already has some knowledge and experience, and provides enough material for you to experiment safely for yourself. It's very much a hands-on "how to" book which draws together many of the essentials of magical working in a compact form without waffle or "padding." A useful "instruction book" in the art of Ceremonial magic.
