Not only does this book hold a wealth of information impossible to find elsewhere, it is also accompanied by beautiful photos.
The detail on the fauna of the Moluccas is better than anything one could find for any other, actually far less remote region of Indonesia. Every bit as good as the book on the Mammals of New Guinea by this author.

It contains comprehensive information for each of the species and in most cases this is coupled with great photos for their identification. Distribution maps are also present however these appear lacking as they are mainly based on museum specimen records. It may be a more of a reflection on the lack of data for the areas fauna than the authors research! In short the bible for anyone contemplating mammal research in the South West Pacific and coupled with its sister title - the mammals of new guinea provides a comprehensive account of the mammalian fauna of the region.
