Customer Reviews
This is the book that got me my desktop VB pass..
So it can't be too bad!
Yes, it's probably overly heavy, but it is thorough. Covers almost everything you'll need for the desktop exam (though I think it's a given that MSDN is also required reading). And yes, there are some errors in the code, though whenever I buy a textbook the first thing I do is download the errata and go through the book. (Actually sometimes the errors can help - I sit there thinking to myself "I know that's wrong", so it shows I'm learning).
The software on the CD is OK, not brilliant. In summary, if you've got a few weeks to spare, concentrate on going through this whole bnook from cover to cover twice, and you should be in a pretty good position to take the exam (as a little hint, you really should study MSDN on callback interfaces hard as well - it's not really covered well enough in this text book (or anywhere for that matter)).
A really good certification book. If you want to get good at VB, I can also recommend Peter Vogel's Visual Basic Object and Component Handbook, and Serious Ado by Apress. Both are top-notch. Good luck!
You can't fail to smash the 2 VB exams with this BOOK!!!!!!
I had this book along with the Transcender tests and exam cram just for my journey to the exam hall. I scored 928 in the 175 at first attempt and 800 in the 176 at first attempt. This book deals with the Microsoft exam objectives comprehensively and I recommend it to anyone who wants to glide triumphantly over the two exams.
This is the BOOK for the 2 VB Exams!!!!!
This book presents a very comprehensive and thorough layout of the areas you need to cover for the Exams 175 and 176. I scored 800 in my first attempt of Exam 176 and 928 at my first attempt of Exam 175 only three weeks later. Combining this guide with the Transcender tests will make anyone fly high through both exams. I recommend this book to every MSCD-VB candidate who wants to sail through the exams at first attempt.
