Average customer review:Product Description
The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification continues to increase in popularity. Employers often require this certification because it proves applicants have mastered the ability to design, develop, implement, and support solutions with Microsoft products and technologies. Computer professionals who become Microsoft Certified are recognized as experts and are sought after industry-wide. Having MCSE credentials increases an administrator's salary potential by thousands of dollars. In order to obtain their MCSE, candidates are required to pass six exams-four core exams and two elective exams. This curriculum is very rigorous and extremely challenging. The MCSE exams, which cost $100 each, are much more difficult than the Novell CNE exams. Candidates are in need of a complete, concise, inexpensive study guide to fully prepare them to pass the exams.

Great traing guide CD, a little shallow in content coverage
This book touches on all the 70-29 guideline requirements in a very organized fashion. The layout of the book was excellent, including objective explanations, section outlines, study strategies, fast facts, and helpful exam taking tips. Unfortunately, not all topics were covered in the depth really required to pass 70-29 (with exception of the 'Database Design' section, which was great).
I found the training guide CD that accompanied this book to be an essential resource. Although the questions are not quite as difficult as the ones you'll encounter on 70-29, you will certainly become more comfortable with the testing interface and generally more aware of the scope of each testing section. You can select from exam simulations, study cards, and flash cards to help tailor to your own personal study needs.
As others have already mentioned, 70-29 cannot be passed by studying a single material. This book does cover alot of the material, but should not be considered your prime study material. I would recommend the MicrosoftPress "SQL Server 7.0 Database Implementation Training Kit" to obtain your balk of 70-29 knowledge. Researching SQL 7.0 white papers is helpful as well.
Get another book as well...
I've passed 5 MCPs using previous experience and the New Rider series of books; 70-029 was the first exam I had to retake, primarily because a lot of what came up in the exam was barely touched by this book, or the practice exams (actually, neither did the practice exams of an online testing company, but that's another story).
It'll make a useful reference book in future, but it won't pass you your exam unless you're already a real SQL guru.
Great prep guide for this exam.
I have 5 yrs experience in building database applications with non-SQL Server databases. This book was all I used for about 4 weeks of 'spare time' studying. I thought the author covered the objectives effectively (light on the maintain db section), although there were some inaccuracies that I wish they would post corrections for on their website. Didn't anybody take the beta 70-100? That was a hard exam!
