Product Description

Gary Bouton's learning methodology is set up to give you hands-on experience with Photoshop's features, using either the imagery created in the book, or the your own. Gary grounds you in the most practical and useful aspects of Photoshop-the real-world uses of this powerful program-before delving into the more complex, arcane, or esoteric uses of the program. Each chapter includes a balance of textual discussion, hands-on exercises, and review material, all written in Gary's highly praised style: compelling to more advanced users while never patronizing to the less experienced. The CD-ROM includes all exercise files used in the book so that you can follow the author exactly, duplicating everything discussed and shown in the book. The CD will also include numerous texture maps and custom photo art for use at your discretion; as well as filters and utilities; along with a digital computer graphics glossary compiled by the author and laid out in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Version 6 of Photoshop is probably the most extensive upgrade the program has seen in its lifetime. Likewise, Inside Adobe Photoshop 6 has undergone an extensive revamp to cover everything new on offer.

As the author of 13 books on Photoshop, Gary Bouton has developed a style that is informal, accessible and perfectly suited to introducing those with little or no experience of digital image editing to the industry standard application.

Part one covers the basics including version 6 features and encourages you to jump in with both feet and experiment. Having let off steam, you are treated to an entire chapter devoted to colour management, one of version 6's big triumphs and the first implementation of a colour management system that can be understood and implemented by mere mortals.

The main part of the book is divided into five sections--Introducing the Basics, Digging Deeper, Exploring the Cool Stuff and Introducing ImageReady. Each of Photoshop's features is introduced then explained by means of a tutorial. Creating Special Effects with Type, for example, introduces type modes and some special text effects before showing you how create an ad using type on a path, a stroke effect and warped text.

If you want to know how to restore old or damaged photos, create montages, get the best results when scanning and printing, create illustrations from scratch, or any of the hundreds of other image editing tasks Photoshop makes possible, this book is one of the best starting places you could choose. --Ken McMahon

Review
"Scott cuts to the quick and loads his book with the kind of time-saving and high-quality material that's made this book an instant classic."Web Developer.Internet.com, Aug 2001"A giant among the titles under review, not just for the sheer number of pages but for style as well. Design and presentation are excellent, which is appropriate, with excellent and imaginative use made of cropped screenshots. Our favourite in-depth title."Computer Shopper, Sept 2001

One of the Best Image Editing Programs and One of the Best f5
For those people who once had a constact with Adobe's Leading Image Editing Software, This is the book for you to buy, Exaustive topic explanation, very easy to understand in all parts. Great content, from basics to advanced technics, this is not a book for someone eho never saw Photoshop in their life. You can become a advanced user at the end of the book. A little extensive in some parts it might scar some people by it's length but i can say to you that in less than two weeks i've finished the book (i may confess that i've missed some parts that i already knew about), so it's not so hard to read as you might think, seing a 900+ page book. You want to learn Photoshop? Let me give one advice to you ... Buy It !!! you'll not get sorry for sure !

Are you really upto it?4
I recently purchased this book after starting a course in University. It is excellent for beginners, going step by step through everything. If you want to learn everything to do with photoshop this is the book for you if you are able to ever get through the 1000 pagees that it has. --- The let down for this book is that it was not printed in colour, you have to ask the question...Why?...Because of price maybe, but a book that deals alot in manipulating colours in some chapters should atleast have those chapters printed in colour. Anyway, a definite good buy.

Could have said it in half the pages3
This book contains pages and pages of waffle. It's also written in thatirritating American way that most Europeans find treats us likemorons.
Having said that, it does show you quite a lot but expects you to know thewhy. It's not a good book for beginners, but a look at the back cover doestell you that the user level is from intermediate to professional.
For a more professional book, taking up only half as much space on yourbookshelf with twice as much content, check out Adobe Photoshop by MartinEvening.
